Abstract (EN): This work reports the modeling and design of a multitubular temperature pressure swing adsorption cycle to separate and recover the vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) from a gas stream containing nitrogen, using a commercial activated carbon adsorbent. For the first time, experimental adsorption equilibrium data for the VCM was assessed using gravimetric methods on a Maxsorb activated carbon sample. Using an equivalent 1-dimensional mathematical model, a six-step two multitubular adsorber system was developed, to produce a nitrogen stream with a vinyl chloride limit of 8 ppm (w/w) and a vinyl chloride stream with a 95% (v/v) purity. The proposed system reports productivity of 8.41 mol/(kg(ads) h) or 69 kg(VCM)/(m(unit)(3) h), with an energy consumption of 3.05 MJ/kg(VCM).
