Abstract (EN): Subverting the reluctant approximation of arts and academia, we propose, as social scientists, to analyze artistic creation, participating in its process and facing still existing challenges of exteriority and distrust. Unusually, the invitation to this scrutiny arises from the arts world, through the theatrical company Teatro Meia Volta and the project "The public goes to the theater", a proposal that seeks to establish an active dialog between performance, public formation, and action research. Experience, which is simultaneously artistic/ investigative, bringing to the core discussion OPorto public (arbitrarily constituted) and its relationship with theater, ques tions the role of actors, institutions, and the publics. In this article we reflect on the sociological monitoring carried out in this multidisciplinary study and respective creative process.
