Para estudar o imaginário do fim do mundo, o Instituto de Literatura Comparada Margarida Losa organiza, desde 2013, uma série de seminários abertos, coincidindo com os equinócios e os solstícios. Os libretos Materiais para o Fim do Mundorecolhem alguns ensaios apresentados nesses seminários, ou textos afins. Neste nono libreto, Diogo Martins estabelece diálogos entre os universos distópicos de dois textos, de António Gregório e Fiódor Dostoiévski, e dois filmes, de M. Night Shyamalan e Joachim Trier, questionando o confronto de seres individuais com o fim do(e) mundo(s); Helena Lopes parte das reacções mediáticas à representação de um crime em Downton Abbey, num ensaio que visa debater as fronteiras do period drama ao mesmo tempo que interroga a vivência política da Grã-Bretanha nos nossos dias; e João Pedro da Costa resgata o 11 de Setembro e a música para reflectir acerca de ruído e silêncio, ruína e progresso, estudando The Disintegration Loops (2012) de William Basinski à luz do conflito entre o analógico e o digital.
