The main objective of the
Archive Unit of the School of Economics and Management of the University of Porto, part of the Documentation and Information Service (SDI), is to ensure the preservation, organisation and availability of the FEP Historical Archive, which brings together a historical documentary collection produced by its various agencies and services from 1953 to today.
After being created by Decree-Law no. 39226, on May 28, 1953, the first facilities of the School of Economics and Management were located in the Rectory Building, where part of its archival heritage was affected by the fire on April 20, 1974. Standouts among the oldest documentation preserved in the Historical Archive include the class summaries, correspondence registry books and original examination terms for the Bachelor in Economics.
Since 1974, when the Faculty of Economics and Management definitively moved to its current facilities, the archive has grown exponentially, not only in terms of the academic documentation it holds, but also in terms of its management bodies and other services.
Currently, the most common documents found in the FEP Historical Archive are:
- Management bodies’ meetings minutes;
- Student files (Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral degrees)
- Examination results and terms (Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral degrees);
- International mobility files;
- Personnel files (Teachers, Non-Teaching Staff and Researchers);
- Invitations to tender;
- Correspondence management files;
- Accounting and treasury files.
The FEP Historical Archive also contains the partial sub-archive of ISFEP (Research and Services Institute of the Faculty of Economics and Management of the University of Porto), created in 1994.
In addition to the work of organising and describing the documentation, a digital catalogue of the FEP Archive has also been built, which can be consulted below.
