Applications
Enrolment in FEP programmes must obligatorily be preceded by an application.
Contests for application submission to enrol at FEP may be national (held by the central services of the Ministry of Education and Science) or local, held by FEP.
Local applications are done on-line, using the platform available on FEP's website, and carry a fee of 55.00¤ per application submitted for national student or 100.00¤ for international student.
Applications for 1st cycle courses (bachelors)
The first enrolment in first cycle programmes, except in cases that fall under special regimes, are done through the National Contest for Admissions which is the exclusive liability of the Directorate General for Higher Education .
In the case of special regimes of enrolment, applications are done through local contests and are subject to conditions and deadlines that are established in an annual notice.
Local contests:
- Contest to change institution/course pair: This local contest is open to all students who have registered and enrolled in another institution/ programme pair, including foreign institutions of higher education, so long as they have not concluded the respective programme; who have completed the national secondary education exams required for entry into that pair, for that year, under the general access regime; who have achieved the minimum classification demanded by the institution of higher education in said exams, for that year, under the general access regime.
- Special contest for graduates of other higher education programmes: This local contest is open to all students who hold a bachelor, master, doctorate or other college degree.
- Special contest for candidates over 23 years old: This local contest is open to all students who are over 23 years old and who pass special exams to evaluate their capacity to study at a university level. Candidates taking the exams should present their application under the terms indicated in the Notice posted annually on FEP's site.
- Re-entry contest: This local contest is open to all students who, after interrupting their studies in a FEP programme, wish to re-register and enrol in the same programme or in a programme that has substituted the original.
- Special contest for international students: This local contest is open to all international students who possess qualifications granting them access to higher education (any diploma or certificate attesting to their passing of a secondary school programme in their country of origin and which confers them the right to apply to enrol in higher education in that country, or even a Portuguese secondary school diploma).

Applications for 2nd cycle programmes (masters)
This local contest is open to all students who hold a bachelors degree or its legal equivalent; hold a foreign higher education degree conferred following completion of a 1st cycle of studies organized according to the Bologna Process principles by an adherent State; hold a foreign higher education degree that is recognized as satisfying the objectives of the bachelors degree by the Scientific Council of the School of Economics and Management of the University of Porto; hold an academic, scientific or professional curriculum that is recognized as demonstrative of their capacity to undertake a course of study by the Scientific Council of the School of Economics and Management of the University of Porto. Applications should be submitted exclusively on-line and according to the terms indicated in the Notice posted on FEP's website.

Applications for 3nd cycle programmes (doctorates)
This local contest is open to all students who hold a master degree or legal equivalent; hold a bachelor degree and an especially relevant academic or scientific curriculum that the Scientific Council recognizes as demonstrative of their capacity to undertake a course of study; hold an academic, scientific or professional curriculum that the Scientific Council recognizes as demonstrative of their capacity to undertake a course of study. Applications should be submitted exclusively on-line and according to the terms indicated in the Notice posted on FEP's website.
