Objectives

Seminars II  aims to present and discuss themes, debates, and case studies from several areas of Economics, Finance, and Management, through participation in seminars with guest speakers from academia, the business world, and public or private institutions.

Each student will learn to select, research and critically discuss topics of interest for their academic development and will be able to integrate theoretical knowledge in the analyses and resolution of concrete economic problems.

The course also aims to introduce the student to the master thesis research process and expose students to academic research work in Economics from FEP and its research centers, with a focus on projects and research topics that can inform or integrate dissertation/report themes.

  • Summarize and critically discuss the topics presented.
  • Apply acquired knowledge in Economics to perform a critical reflection of the presented themes, with technical reasoning.
  • Perform an adequate literature search and review to a specific theme and find relevant debates and research lines.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Seminars and workshops with guest-speakers from different subject areas of economics and management and discussion of these issues.
Seminars require the attendance and active participation of students. Besides the presentation time by the invited speaker, all sessions have a period of discussion and debate, where informed participation by all students is expected. Ideally, this space should allow the clash between the acquired theoretical references and the topics covered by the speakers.
