Objectives
- to contribute to a critical understanding of leadership;
- to analyse the centrality of power in the study of leadership;
- to contribute to develop a reflexive attitude towards leadership, in particular in organizational settings.
Learning outcomes and competences
- an understanding of leadership that challenges the reductionist conceptualizations of mainstream approaches;
- thinking leadership beyond leaders and heroic, grandiose views;
- to understand the paradoxical, mundane nature of leadership;
- a self-diagnosis and a personal reflection around own and others' experiences of leading and being led.

Program
1. Leadership and leaders: modes of thinking.
2. Mainstream proposals centred on leaders: classical perspectives and the 'new leadership'.
3. Alternative proposals of analysis: followership, gender and leadership, negative and destructive leadership, distributed leadership, relational leadership, leadership as practice.
4. Critical approach: leadership and dialectical power relations.
5. Successes, failures and tragedies of leadership: notable cases in politics, religion, military, sports and management domains.

Eligibility for exams
Attendance of at least 3/4 of lectures.
Calculation formula of final grade
a) DISTRIBUTED ASSESSMENT (in época normal only):
- Exam 65% + Individual paper 35%
- A minimum mark of 7 is required in the exam.
- Approval is granted when the average mark is 9,5 or higher.
b) FINAL EXAM (in época de recurso only): 100%.
