- To get the students acquainted with financial mathematics, being able to use it in solving practical financial problems.
- To get students to know a numbero of basic financial instruments, and to use financial calculus to value such instruments.
- To give students the opportunity of using Excel functions to solve problems of financial mathematics.
It is expected to endow the students with skills to:

1. Financial Mathematics

Flipped classroom: With this methodology the student has to prepare before the sessions the materials planned for each session. Therefore, the student will have in class a better grasp of the content of the course and at the same time will have more time to solve cases and exercises in class with the support of the teacher.
Each class will start with a short quiz on the topics covered in the materials. The teacher will then discuss with the class specific and more complex topics and all the questions the students might have. The second part of the class is dedicated to solving problems both with excel or hand calculators.

- Students may choose between the final exam and distributed assessment with final exam.
- Distributed assessment with final exam is made of two tests (the first one with a weight of 30% and the second with a weight of 60%) and of the participation in class (quizzes) with a weight of 10%.
- The first test will take place during the semester on the date set by the Padagogical Council, and the second test on the day of the final exam (Época Normal)
- The second test is comprehensive (covering the whole program of the course) and will be equal to the final exam in Época Normal.
- The final grade of the distributed assessment is equal to the weighted average of the grades obtained in each component. In order to pass the course students must have a score of at least 9,5 and have at least 6,0 in each test.
- The student who takes the exam/test in Época Normal will have as final mark the highest of the marks resulting from the distributed assessment and the final exam (Época Normal).
- Only the students enrolled in classes can access the distributed assessment with final exam.
- The final exam is made of a written test. In order to pass the course students must have a score of at least 9,5.
- Students that fail the course can retake the exam in the reassessment examination period (Época de Recurso)
