Objectives
1. To provide an introduction to the management of health service operations.
2. To study some of the main problems in health service operations management.
3. To analyze ways of improving performance in health services.
Learning outcomes and competences
At the end of the course the students should be able to:
- manage inventories related to health services;
- plan capacities and identify crititcal resources;
- make production plans and operations schedules;
- identify strategic areas in service operations and propose solutions;
- assess the impact of different decisons on queueing systems performance.

Basic knowledge of mathematical analysis and probability distributions.

Eligibility for exams
All students enrolled in the course can take the exam.
Calculation formula of final grade
Distributed assessment with final exam: homeworks (40%) and final exam (60%).
If students do not submit the homeworks then the final exam is worth 100%.

Observations
1. The final exam is open book.
2. There are 14 office hours that could not be inserted in 'componentes de ocupação'.
