Objectives

The main objective of the course is to provide the students with a sound understanding of the concepts, techniques, and applications of production and operations management. The material presented provides a blend of the managerial issues in OM with the technical and quantitative aspects of the discipline.

Learning outcomes and competences

At the end of the course the students will be able to:

  • Plan and manage projects
  • Make production plans and operations  schedules ;
  • Define and reformulate layouts;
  • Plan capacities and identify critical resources;
  • Manage inventories and materials;
  • Know the main concepts of quality management and use basic statistical process control tools.

Eligibility for exams

All students enrolled in the course may take the final exam. However, and naturally, students who complete the distributed assessment evaluation in the regular examination period (by handing in the final test) will not be able to take the regular examination period exam.



Calculation formula of final grade

Two evaluation regimes are available for the classes in english:

1 – Final exam, closed book (only in the “época de recurso” and “época especial”);

2 – Distributed evaluation without final exam and with two closed book tests (50% + 50%), each with 6 points out of 20 as minimum score.
