We intend to approximate students with the work of empirical research in their area of expertise and serve as a basis for reflection and motivation for future dissertation. Specifically, we intend to provide the skills necessary for students to develop dissertation plans, namely that students are able to identify opportunities for research, designing research goals and develop a methodological plan appropriate to these goals. Students should be able to: 1) identify and critically review the literature relevant to the research topics, 2) identify opportunities for research and objectives / research questions to explore, 3) identify and develop appropriate methodological approaches to the research question identified including tools for collecting and analyzing data, and 4) develop a schedule of activities to accomplish. The expected result consist in the plan of the thesis, project or stage.
At the end of the course each student should master the basic concepts and skills of scientific research methodology, as well as to be able to prepare and present a dissertation proposal.
I. Introduction to dissertation proposals and the scientific method of research
II. Methodology and research strategies; scientific writing; Bibliographic databases and statistics, the statistical process, Data Collection, Data Analysis with SPSS, Coding, Analysis of initial data, the process of statistical inference; Qualitative Research: Case Studies, Focus groups and interviews.
III. Preparation by stages, with monitoring, research proposals
Combination of expository methods and active methods. Lessons are based on exposure through dialogue, exploration texts, being designed as tools to support the systematization of recommended literature, emphasizing the participation of students in terms of selected readings to enliven classroom dynamics.
