Objectives

To give the students a set of knowledge properly organized on the Portuguese and European economies; to operationalize concepts previously acquired in other disciplines by applying these concepts to the Portuguese and the European economies; to know how to look for and deal with the statistical information available for the Portuguese and the European economies.

To acquire set of knowledge properly organized on the Portuguese and European economies.

Pre-requirements (prior knowledge) and co-requirements (common knowledge)

Knowledge of Macroeconomics.

Program

Chapter I: European Industrialization and Portuguese Economic Backwardness (1830-1913).
Chapter II: Portuguese and European Economic Growth in the Inter-Wars Period (1913-1950).
Chapter III: The Import Substitution Industrialization in the 1950’s (1950-1960).
Chapter IV: Portuguese Integration in the European Economic Institutions in the 1960’s (1960-1973).
Chapter V: Economic Growth in the Internal Ruptures and Oil Shocks Period (1973-1985).
