The course is aimed to give students knowledge and skills on energy markets analysis and dynamics. The focus will be the european market.
Students must be able to recognize different energy markets and different kinds of contracts. They shall also be able to evaluate which contract is more suitable to each situation and to evaluate/quantify risks.
1. The electricity market: main features. Market liberalization. Environmental Policy and Energy Policy: nuclear and renewables. Impact of distributed renewables on market dynamics, Types of markets and transactions. The Iberian market ( MIBEL).
2. Natural gas market: NG and LNG. Markets and ways of transactions. Market liberalization.
3. The oil market: technical costs of production; types of crude. The variety of contracts. Price dynamics and risk.
4. The coal market: price dynamics.
Exposition of topics. Students are expected to interact. International Markets consultation via internet. Case studies.
