The main objective of the course is to provide the students with a sound understanding of the concepts, techniques, and applications of service management. The material presented provides a blend of the managerial issues in OM with the technical and quantitative aspects of the discipline.
At the end of the course the students will be able to:
Manage inventories;
Plan capacities and identify crititcal resources;
Make production plans and operations schedules ;
Define and reformulte layouts;
Understand the main ideias of Just-In-Time;
Identify strategic areas in service operations and propose solutions.

II. Queue Management
Expository lectures are followed by case study and problem solving sessions. During some of the sessions students have access to personal computers and software packages.

The evaluation is made of two parts (I and II):
- Part I will be evaluated using two projects and will have a weight of 80% in the final grade.
- Part II will be evaluated using a exame and will have a weight of 20% in the final grade.
If you do not do any of the projects you will be given zero to that projects but you can still do the other projects and exame.
The exams will be OPEN BOOK.
The final grade is computed as follows:
Final grade = Grade in part I x 80% + Grade in part II x 20%.
The evalution in the second phase is made using a final exame.
