Objectives

This course aims at giving students a solid knowledge of the International Business area, focusing on issues of firms’ internationalization, and strategy and impact of multinational firms.

Program

I. Multinationals and internationalization: framing, concepts, facts and trends.
II. Theories of the foreign direct investment (FDI) and the multinational firms.
III. The motives for foreign production. Entry modes. Establishment modes: greenfield investment vs mergers & acquisitions.
IV. Internationalization of firms: The Uppsala model and the network model.
V. The modern multinational. Headquarters-subsidiary relations. Subsidiaries’ strategies. The strategic evolution of the subsidiaries.
VI. The impact of foreign multinationals’ activities.
VII. Public policies, Framing and Institutions related with FDI and Multinationals.
