Objectives

The course of Economic Growth aims to present the main perspectives and the formal macro-models that are addressed to the explanation of the dynamic behaviour of economies. Why countries have different levels of per capita income and productivity? What makes some countries to grow faster than others? Do countries converge to a same equilibrium in the long run? In growth process, which is the role played by capital accumulation, by human capital investments and by knowledge?
The course of Economic Growth presents and discusses the main formal macro-models (from the Harrod – Solow debate till endogenous growth models). Besides theoretical perspectives, we will also analyse the main methodologies concerning empirical studies on economic growth and discuss some relevant empirical studies.
