Abstract

In data-driven fields like energy management and smart city planning, accessible, high-quality data is essential for effective forecasting and optimization. However, data owners often hesitate to share data due to privacy, fairness, and compensation concerns. This seminar examines three key families of incentive mechanisms that encourage data sharing. First, monetary incentives offer compensation based on the relevance of data contributions to specific objectives. Second, non-monetary incentives use a barter system, enabling data owners to trade data of roughly equal value without monetary exchange, fostering mutually beneficial partnerships. Finally, we explore data altruism as a motivational pathway where individuals or organizations share data for the public good, driven by ethical or community-centered goals.
