Apresentação Pessoal
I am a Full Professor at the School of Economics and Management of the University of Porto (FEP), where I have been engaged in teaching, research, and academic management activities. My main areas of interest are Economic Growth and International Trade. I am the author of more than 140 articles published in high-reputation international scientific journals, as well as book chapters and numerous working papers.
I have sought to be involved in both theoretical and applied research as a member of leading research centers, such as CEF.UP (Center for Economics and Finance at the University of Porto) and OBEGEF (Observatory of Fraud Economics and Management), where I served as President for eight years and Vice-President for six years. My work at OBEGEF reflects a deep commitment to combating the informal economy and corruption, producing reference studies on the weight of the shadow economy in Portugal and publishing opinion articles in national newspapers to raise public awareness and contribute to more effective policymaking.
In parallel, I have been dedicated to training new generations of economists. To date, I have supervised more than 10 doctoral theses and over 40 master's dissertations, contributing to the advancement of scientific research and the development of a highly qualified generation of researchers and professionals.
I have also participated in consultancy projects and public policy advisory initiatives in collaboration with national and international institutions. In these endeavors, I have always prioritized the economic and social impact of recommendations, bridging economic theory with contemporary issues and promoting innovative solutions to address global economic and societal challenges.
In the field of university management, I have sought to strengthen FEP, aligning its mission with the demands for teaching excellence, high-quality research, and strong societal impact.
Currently, I serve as the Dean of FEP and President of the FEP Scientific Council, roles in which I aim to foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and academic excellence. In parallel, I hold the position of President of the Municipal Assembly of Miranda do Douro, maintaining an active connection to my hometown and contributing to regional development.
