Personal Presentation
I am a matematician interested in dynamical systems and economics problem where mathematical reasoning is relevant. As a mathematician I have contributed to the understanding of the dynamics near a heteroclinic network, including its stability and that of its cycles, as well as that of global dynamics on the plane. I work mostly on problems formulated in continuous time, with and without symmetry. I have also answered questions in game theory, oligopoly theory, economic geography and general equilibrium in economics. I dedicate a substancial amount of time and energy to young scientists and have supervised MSc and PhD students in both mathematics and economics. My PhD is in mathematics, from 1993 at the University of Warwick, UK. I am a researcher at Centro de Matemática (CMUP) and associated researcher at Centro de Economia e Finanças (Cef.UP) both at the University of Porto. In 2015 I have received the Prémio de Excelência Pedagógica da Universidade do Porto (excellence in teaching prize) for a project concerned with learning mathematics in economics and management degrees. I am a member of the Standing Committee of the scientific society European Women in Mathematics (EWM) and president of the northern section of the Portuguese Maths Society (SPM-Norte) for the period 2022-2026.More information in Portuguese available at https://noticias.up.pt/fep/pessoas-da-fep-entrevista
