Objectives

The emergency conditions of clinical criminology, theories and concepts, methods, themes, and intervention fields;

The applications of the clinical method in the criminological praxis and the process and dynamics of the psychological assessment;

Knowing clinical practice as an evidence-based practice;

The different methods and techniques of psychological assessment and its scientific basis;

The contribution of the scientific study of psychopathology and crime for the conceptualization of the person under clinical analysis;

The limits and implications of clinical criminology and ethical and deontological issues.
Learning outcomes and competences
Students are expected to acquire the skills necessary to reflect on the core concepts of clinical criminology. We also intend to introduce and train essential clinical skills in assessment and intervention.

I - Clinical Criminology
a. Clinical Criminology: Introduction, definition, and object;
b. The concept of Dangerousness: conceptual framing and legal framing;
c. Assessment of Dangerousness and its reflections on the Penal Code and Criminal Procedure Code;
d. From dangerousness to risk: historical and critical approach;
II - The Practice of Clinical Work
a. The clinical method;
b. Clinical work from a phenomenological perspective: understanding and interpretation; the process, dynamics, and consequences;
c. Clinical interview: interview techniques, attitudes in the interview, setting;
d. Actuarial assessment and its tools.
III - Personality and the Risk of Criminal Recidivism
a. Models on personality and its relation to crime;
b. Personality disorders, namely antisocial disorders;
c. Risk factors for criminal recidivism;
d. Clinical approach to special groups of offenders: offenders with violent behaviors and sexual offenders.
IV - Psychopathology and Crime

Teaching methods and learning activities
Theoretical-practical classes combine content presentation with the completion of practical work related to the subjects taught. Active information seeking will be prioritized, as well as the integration of the knowledge covered with the study of recent publications and the research implications for the analysis of specific clinical cases. Exercises such as role-playing and case studies will be emphasized to develop students' clinical skills in the classroom context.

Calculation formula of final grade
Final Grade = 0,60xFE + 0,40xDA, where FE and DA designate, respectively, Final Exam grade and Distributed Assessment Grade.
Each of these two elements is assessed from 0 to 20 points.
