during the course, conducting to an individual research project and respective execution.
Learning outcomes and competences
It is expected that at the end of the semester the students have developed:
- autonomy in conducting a scientific literature review and the hability to apply methodological and conceptual analysis to an individual research project.
- Ability to critically reflect on the criminological study objects, in particular about the elected theme for the individual project.
- An empirical and original research project within criminological field.Working method

Program
The orientation seminar provides a space for the
integration of the acquired knowledge and the development of an
individual research project leading to the dissertation. Thus, the contents are conditioned by the initiative of the students, properly framed in the research lines
of the School of Criminologyl. The projects developed by the students should be
theoretical and empirically supported in the major areas of Criminology, namely juvenile delinquency,
clinical criminology, experimental criminology, comparative criminology, victimology,
security and social control.Mandatory literature

Teaching methods and learning activities
The teaching methodology is mainly interactive. It is expected that the knowledge acquired by systematic
literature reviews will converge to the individual research project of the students.
The project structure should comprise the definition and precise delimitation of the study object, the
hypothesis, the state of the art and methodology. The teacher will supervise the elaboration and the
developments of the project, through the presentation of specific issues, bibliographical recommendations, methodological training and
development of conceptual skills.

AD2-A written work defining the methodology to develop in the individual project. 20% weighting in the final grade.
The students should present orally, during classes, one of the works mentioned above.
AD3- A final written presentation of the individual research project. The structure of the project shall include, necessarily, the definition and precise delimitation of the study object, the hypotheses/research questions, the theoretical framework and the methodology. Weighting of 60% of the final grade.
