Objectives

To know the developments of community policies and its strategies incorporating them and analyzing them in the context of social, political and ideological outlook transformations
To be able to identify and characterize the main models of community prevention of crime and fear of crime and to know the conditions of its implementation and evaluation
To know the current discussions on community strategies for the prevention of crime and fear of crime
Have knowledge that enables the development of an approach on the relationship between policy and practice in the prevention of crime and fear of crime.

Program

I. Introduction to Evaluation of Intervention Programs
1) Design of programs, requirements, criteria and procedures.
2) Evaluation Program: analysis of results from studies of meta-analysis and its impact on intervention with young and adults offenders.
II. Violent offenders programs.
1) The legal framework
2) Development of theoretical references and in the types of intervention in violent crime
3) Status in Portugal
III. Sex offenders programs.
1) The legal framework
2) Development of theoretical references and in the types of intervention in sexual crime
3) Status in Portugal
IV. Programs of community prevention of crime and fear of crime
1) Introduction to concepts and practices of community prevention of crime and fear of crime: analysis of their implications in the dynamics of contemporary societies.
2) The development of policies and practices of community prevention of crime and fear of crime: analysis of the Portuguese experience in the international framework
3) Situational prevention
4) Implementation and evaluation of programs of community prevention of crime and fear of crime.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Theoretical and practical classes. In theoretical classes will be described and discussed the main programmatic content. In practical classes work will be conducted in groups.
