Abstract (EN):
Fire is a very particular action on framed structures, as it leads to changes on material properties and it induces a rapid loss of stiffness and strength. Besides, columns are very much susceptible to the action of fire, because they support the vertical load, and thus second order effects induced by large fire induced lateral deflections need to be explicitly accounted for. To perform an analysis in a fire situation two analyses are necessary: a thermal one and a mechanical one. As concerned to the mechanical analysis, EN1992-1-2 (EC2) indicates three categories of analyses, with increasing degree of complexity: tabulated data, simplified calculation methods and advanced calculation methods. This work is focused on a comparison between a simplified calculation method suggested on Annex B.3 of EC2, and SAFIR, the latter being an advanced calculation method. Only the ISO834 Standard Fire was considered for the thermal and mechanical analyses.
