Abstract (EN): Objective: To characterize the patients rehabilitated with an implant supported prosthesis at the Faculty of Dental Medicine of the University of Porto, by classifying the level of difficulty of the prosthetic rehabilitation. Materials and methods: The study was conducted in the Master/Specialization Course in Oral Rehabilitation, from February to May of 2012, with a final sample of 41 individuals. To assess the difficulty level of the rehabilitation it has been used the Clinical Decision Support System SAC Assessment Tool, in its prosthetic perspective. The variables prosthesis type, number of appointments and difficulty level were analyzed using the Fisher exact test, the one-way ANOVA and the Tukey HSD test (SPSS® 19.0). Results: The results indicated a larger number of cases of high complexity, 53.7% (Complex), followed by 29.3% of cases of intermediate complexity (Advanced) and 17.1% of less complex cases (Straightforward). A statistical relationship (p<0,05) was observed between the scale and the number of appointments, as well as the type of prosthesis. The prosthetic rehabilitations classified as Complex need more appointments. The fixed full-arch prosthesis and the removable full-arch prosthesis usually present Complex classification while partial and unitary prosthesis usually present Straightforward and Advanced classifications. Conclusions: Within the limitations of this research, mostly concerned with the sample size, it can be concluded that the SAC Assessment Tool may contribute to standardize the diagnosis of clinical rehabilitation with dental implants, and to promote a better approach to the treatment plan. © 2012 Sociedade Portuguesa de Estomatologia e Medicina Dentária.
