Abstract (EN): This paper presents preliminary results obtained in the frame of a project focused on the optimization of stir welded joints (FSW) using Taguchi and Artificial Neural Network methods. A Taguchi array was chose to define the best combinations of parameters to perform the FSW experiments. The selected parameters were: the rotational speed, welding speed, tilt angle, probe distance from the root surface, and shoulder/probe diameters ratio. Butt joints of AA6082-T6 aluminium were performed and as a preliminary result the temperature generated near the shoulder boundaries was analysed. It was observed that the probe/shoulder diameter ratio is the most influent parameter in the welding temperature response.
