Abstract (EN):
Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a common complication of diabetes. Endothelial dysfunction has been implicated in diabetic-ED, however the angiogenic mechanisms deregulated in diabetic corpus cavernosum (CC) remain unclear. We aim to identify alterations in angiogenic genes which may be involved in diabetic vascular and erectile insufficiency. To accomplish this, we used a microanay system, which allowed us to evaluate the pattern of angiogenesis-related genes in CC of an established type 1 diabetes (T1DM) animal model. Preliminary results suggested a downregulation in the expression of several genes in diabetic cavernosal tissue. The identified genes are involved in the regulation of intracellular cascades, G-protein signaling response to oxidative stress, and directly related to angiogenic process. This microarray analysis provided evidence of angiogenic molecules and pathways deregulated in diabetic CC, which might impair proper vascular and erectile function
