Abstract (EN):
Between October 1995 and July 1996 specimens of the European eel Anguilla anguilla L. (11.0-57.0 cm) were seasonally sampled in four rivers of north Portugal to study the dissemination and the seasonal occurrence of Anguillicola crassus. This parasite was detected in two rivers only (Ave and Douro). Prevalence ranged between 60.0 and 73.3% and intensity between 1 and 21. Infection and/or re-infection occur in summer time and reproduction occurs all over the seasons but preferentially in autumn.
