Resumo (PT):
The present study resorted to confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) in order to validate in three cultural contexts – Romania, Portugal and Italy –, the Personal Conceptions of Intelligence Scale (PCIS), constructed and validated for the Portuguese population by Faria (1990-2006). The PCIS, composed by 26 items (15 evaluating the static conception and 11 the dynamic one), was administered to 617 participants – 195 Romanian, 200 Portuguese and 222 Italian. We tested in the three cultural contexts the theoretical factorial model of PCIS (with two factors, static and dynamic). We verified that the data did not adjust to this model, but they revealed similar adjustment patterns in the three cultural groups. Namely, in the Romanian, Portuguese and Italian samples, the same 7 items, 6 evaluating the static conception and 1 evaluating the dynamic conception, had low loadings on their original factors. Since these items relate the static character of intelligence to aspects regarding success, effort and errors, we considered an alternative model (without these 7 items) and we tested for its invariant factorial structure across the three cultural contexts. The results revealed good indices of adjustment, suggesting the 7 items might load on a third factor of PCIS to be considered in future studies.
