Resumo (PT): Introdução: A intervenção precoce em situações de perda prematura de dentes decíduos no sector antero-superior é determinante para que ocorra um desenvolvimento harmonioso e equilibrado do sistema estomatognático no futuro. Os dispositivos utilizados interceptivamente devem ser o mais simples, cómodos e económicos para o paciente. Objectivos: Este trabalho tem por objectivo apresentar o caso clínico de um paciente com 5 anos de idade, do sexo masculino, que sofreu um traumatismo orofacial com avulsão dos dentes 51 e 61. A propósito deste caso clínico pretende-se efectuar uma revisão referente às vantagens e eventuais complicações da utilização de mantenedores de espaço removíveis no sector anterior superior. Materiais e Métodos: Foi efectuada uma pesquisa bibliográfica na PUBMED com as palavras-chave: dental space maintainers, tendo sido incluídos 27 artigos. A pesquisa foi limitada aos últimos 10 anos e aos idiomas Inglês, Espanhol, Francês. Conclusão: A manutenção do espaço no sector antero-superior em dentição decídua deve ter uma intercepção célere para prevenir a instalação de má-oclusão e comprometimento do crescimento. Estes dispositivos, apesar de dependentes da colaboração do paciente, promovem a manutenção pretendida.

Abstract (EN): Introduction: Early intervention in cases of premature loss of deciduous teeth in the anterior-superior sector is crucial for harmonious and balanced development of the stomatognathic system in the future. The appliances should be simple, convenient and economical for the patient. Objectives: The aim of this work was to present the case of a male patient aged five who suffered an orofacial trauma and avulsion of teeth 51 and 61. The aim of this case study was to carry out a a revision of the advantages and possible possible complications of space maintainers in the anterior superior region. Materials and Methods: A search in the literature was carry out in PubMed with the keywords *dental space maintainers*; 27 articles were found. The investigation was limited to the last 10 years in English, Spanish and French. Conclusion: Maintening the space in the upper anterior region in primaty teeth should be done quickly in order to impede malocclusion and problems related to growth. Although these appliances depend on the cooperation of the patient, they do to hold the needed space.
