Abstract (EN): Introduction: The steel crowns are a very versatile in pediatric dentistry. In addition to their use for rehabilitating primary teeth that are very damaged as a result of caries, they are also used as a base for maintaining the space when primary first or second molars are lost prematurely. Objectives: The main objectives in this styudy were to demonstrate how steel crowns in pediatric dentistry are easy, quick, economic and efficient. Materials and Methods: The materials used in this case were: Steel Crowns Kit - 3M ®, Drill Stem-tapered - diamond drill No. 701 - Komet ®, RelyX Unicem Maxicap ® - Resin Cement - 3M. The methodology used to carry out the following clinical steps was: selection of the crown, elaboration in laboratory followed by cementing. A search of the PubMed literature was made using the keywords: *space maintenance in the primary and mixed dentition* and 10 articles were included. The investigation was limited to the last 10 years in English, Spanish and French. Conclusion: Fixed space maintainers with crown-type handle can eliminate or reduce the seriousness of malocclusion and a complex treatment in the future. Aplliances such as these are easy to use and time in the dental chair is reduced.
