Abstract (EN):
The chapter explores participatory and visual methods, highlighting their often-marginal status in social sciences. It traces the history of these approaches, emphasizing their role in democratizing research and engaging communities. Tools like photo-elicitation, photovoice, image theater, and participatory cartography are highlighted for their capacity to offer a comprehensive understanding of gentrification and its impact on health, as they capture the personal and lived experiences of participants. These methods not only collect diverse and rich data but also allow individuals to co-author knowledge. Despite some limitations, the chapter underscores their emancipatory potential and their contribution to a more equitable and reflective social science, challenging traditional efficiency paradigms and fostering deeper social commitment.
