Abstract (EN): This paper proposes a reflection on the complex, profound, and sometimes contradictory issue of the causes and consequences of (self)isolation through the analysis of two books by the Madrid-born author Sara Mesa (Madrid, 1976), who has become an essential reference in contemporary Spanish narrative. Both novels are Cicatriz (2015) and Un amor (2020), whose plots obsessively focus on the theme of loneliness, even if this is triggered by various circumstances and reasons. Thus, starting from the dazzlement produced by the restless and disturbing voice of Sara Mesa, a skilled creator of unusual and disconcerting psychological profiles, with this work we intend to contribute to a critical delve into the author’s novels, although we are aware that theorizing about the work of a young writer, at the height of her literary career, implies almost blindly transiting an unexplored territory, but, precisely for that reason, full of possibilities.
