Resumo (PT): Esta investigação procura encontrar, usando uma pesquisa de cariz exploratório, a forma como personagens com deficiência, quer física, quer psicológica, são criados e incluídos em narrativas japonesas em media distintos e abrangentes. Sendo assim, procura-se responder a questões narrativas e artísticas de forma a reunir múltiplos pontos estruturais que apresentem um formato realista e educativo de como redigir personagens em media japoneses que representem este grupo minoritário nas suas histórias. Para apoio na investigação, foi realizada uma revisão sistemática de literatura para recolher dados que suportassem os princípios do desenvolvimento artístico e narrativo, bem como, modelos existentes relevantes para o estudo. As palavras-chave media, animation, disabilities, character design e fictional narratives revelam-se o foco temático desta investigação. Foram analisadas setenta e duas referências sendo que vinte e oito dessas foram utilizadas para estruturação, alinhamento e sustento da investigação. No decorrer da investigação, foi desenvolvido trabalho laboratorial focado na conceção artística de quinze personagens, categorizados por tipo de deficiência, que alinhassem com os resultados da análise da revisão sistemática prévia. A recolha de dados foi feita através de um questionário anónimo que obteve oitenta e duas respostas individuais, a perguntas pertinentes e de suporte à investigação, seguido de entrevistas individuais, de forma a validar e aprofundar o projeto laboratorial e artístico concebido para o estudo. Estes fornecem avaliações do conteúdo prévio existente, bem como, a expressão artística e narrativa retirada das aprendizagens prévias.

Abstract (EN): This research seeks to find, using exploratory research, how characters with disabilities, whether physical or psychological, are created and included in Japanese narratives in different and comprehensive media. As such, it seeks to answer narrative and artistic questions in order to bring together multiple structural points that present a realistic and educational format for writing characters in Japanese media that represent this minority group in their stories. To support the research, a systematic literature review was conducted to collect data that would support the principles of artistic and narrative development, as well as existing models relevant to the study. The keywords media, animation, disabilities, character design, and fictional narratives proved to be the thematic focus of this research. A total of 72 references were analyzed, 28 of which were used to structure, align, and support the research. During the research, laboratory work was developed focused on the artistic design of 15 characters, categorized by type of disability, which aligned with the results of the previous systematic review analysis. Data collection was carried out through an anonymous survey that obtained 82 individual responses to questions relevant to and supporting the research, followed by individual interviews to validate and deepen the laboratory and artistic project designed for the study. These provide evaluations of existing content, as well as artistic expression and narrative drawn from previous learning.
