Abstract (EN):
The crisis with the outbreak of Covid-19, the extreme weather phenomena, and the recent war in Europe have revealed that disruptive contexts will be increasingly recurrent in the future. To operate under conditions of deep uncertainty, all types of organizations, with a particular emphasis on SMEs, need to keep up with technological changes and embark on a digital transformation. Through business digital transformation, they can make better data-driven decisions tailored to their own business needs. One of the ways for any firm to start its digital business transformation journey is through the implementation of enterprise systems. Digital transformation is triggering significant changes in firms¿ business processes and in their enterprise information systems, such as enterprise resource planning, supply chain management, customer relationship management, and enterprise social platforms, among others. Enterprise systems can be used to streamline and integrate an organization¿s business processes and to significantly improve levels of information and knowledge within the organization as well as with its customers and suppliers. New digital systems such as wireless sensors embedded in products, analytics tools, and artificial intelligence are also impacting enterprise systems and creating new organizational challenges. This field of research still being emergent, both in big organizations and in the SME context, with this book we look to highlight the latest and more recent research findings that are occurring in this field. In particular, this book looks to: introduce new lines of research in the use of new digital technologies to enable major business improvements, enhance customer experience, simplify operations, or create new business models; provide a better understanding of the impact of digital transformation on how enterprise systems and enterprise IT services are managed and delivered; and provide new knowledge on how enterprise systems influence digital business transformation. © 2025 selection and editorial matter, Adelaide Martins and Carolina Machado.
