Abstract (EN): Hydrogen production using membrane reactors (MRs) has been catching up the interest of the scientific community. Intensive research regarding the preparation and utilization of membranes, for hydrogen production/purification, has been done, aiming to improve the processes¿ effectiveness. Several works related to the application of this multifunctional reactor configuration in several processes¿water-gas shift (WGS) reaction, methanol decomposition, and ammonia decomposition, among others¿were published in the last few years. In this chapter, the main challenges and strategies adopted for the fabrication and characterization of H2 permselective membranes, the last developments on the application of MRs in a traditional process for hydrogen production WGS, as well as the latest advances verified in emergent processes (e.g., methanol and ammonia decomposition), are addressed. © 2025 Elsevier Inc.
