Abstract (EN):
This work aims to stress the relevant role that the experimental assessment of the Dynamics of Bridges can play along the phases of conception and design, construction, reception and service, including situations of structural modification, rehabilitation or strenghtning. The characterization of the importance of the experimental approach in those phases is made taking essentially into account the experience obtained by the Group of Analysis and Vibrations of the Laboratory of Structures of FEUP, as consequence of the involvement in dynamic tests on several bridges, anmely the Jindo Bridge (South Korea), the Second Severn Crossing (UK), and Infante D. Henrique, Vasco da Gama, Luiz I and Salgueiro Maia Bridges, as well as of the observation of the research work developed at the Katholic University of Leuven on vibration based damage detection techniques, applied to the Swiss bridge Z-24.
