Abstract (EN): Rural farms are an important part of each country¿s consumption and typically include traditional energy installations, which are relatively reliable but energy-intensive and energy inefficient. In rural farms, the implementation of the Smart Farm concept with renewable energy and integrated resource management technologies has been slower than in the domestic and industrial sectors. This work describes a solution that was developed and implemented in a rural farm in Portugal which shows a significant reduction in energy consumption from the electricity grid, and the corresponding reduction in CO2 emissions. The present work makes a technical description of the developed solution and a comparison with other published scientific case studies. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023.
