Abstract (EN): Knowledge of the structural health of components with greater failure criticality can help increase the longevity of railway vehicles by allowing increasing the spacing between inspections. This article presents an experiment to determine the typical stress spectrum observed in parabolic leaf springs of railway freight wagons. The stress spectrum generated in the leaf spring is correlated with the load spectrum imposed on the wheel set. Data is collected from strain gauges and potentiometers installed on the leaf spring and axle box. The numerical model developed in finite elements is used to compare the results obtained and possible future analyses. The results obtained showed good agreement among the different approaches. © 2023 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.
