Abstract (EN):
This paper presents a probability based methodology for failure load assessment of precast concrete highway bridges. The technique developed uses the Monte Carlo simulations coupled with nonlinear FEM. The method allowed to consider the real variability of material properties, girders geometry, load randomness, possible damages (as for existing in deteriorated structures) in the prediction of ultimate load which cause flexural bending failure. The shear failure was not considered in this study. The application of proposed methodology to the recently constructed precast concrete highway overpass is presented to show its efficiency. Results obtained during analysis of chosen example leads to the conclusion that there is a need for more rational methods for designing and assessment of bridges from precast elements.
