Abstract (EN):
In previous works the authors found that for certain combinations of overlap and contact ratios, the fluctuation of the theoretical length of the lines of contact was zero, promoting an almost constant gear mesh stiffness. This led to the design of integer overlap ratio helical gears in order to reach an almost constant gear mesh stiffness. Being the overlap ratio the central parameter for the design of these new gears, it is relevant to evaluate how the gears¿ mesh stiffness, dynamic behavior and noise level are affected by it. Resorting to a gear mesh stiffness developed by the authors, an implemented gear-shaft-bearing dynamic model and Masuda¿s noise level equation, a correlation between the overlap ratio, gear mesh stiffness fluctuations, dynamic transmission error as well as gear noise level is found. Integer overlap ratio gears present better overall performance. © 2023 The Authors.
