Abstract (EN): The purpose of this study was to diagnose if individuals attending a senior university have knowledge regarding the use of geological resources in every daily life products. A survey was done resorting to a validated questionnaire. The sample comprised 51 individuals, with a mean age of 71 years. After the data collection, the analysis of the questionnaires, based on descriptive statistics and the independent chi-square test, allowed to verify that the participants have some literacy. However, wider knowledge was expected. The intervention in this type of institutions seems important for the development of informed citizens capable of using scientific literacy for their benefit and for the benefit of the whole society. © 2020 LNEG ¿ Laboratório Nacional de Energia e Geologia IPIP.
