Resumo (PT): Após o ano de 2000 e em particular no Inverno de 2006/2007 a região entre a Cova do Vapor e a Costa da Caparica foi seriamente atingida pela acção do mar, com perdas sedimentares preocupantes, em particular na praia de S. João, onde as dunas foram gravemente afectadas e os parques de campismo quase foram inundados pelo mar. Alguns factos foram dramatizados, por vezes de forma especulativa, não contribuindo para uma análise serena dos acontecimentos. Este trabalho tem como objectivo apresentar os acontecimentos críticos ocorridos no Inverno de 2006/2007, os aspectos jornalísticos que não foram abordados, a empreitada de alimentação artificial de areias com um volume total de 500 000 m3, entre o esporão EC4 da Costa da Caparica e o Esporão EV1 da Cova do Vapor, e considerações sobre monitorização antes e após a realização da empreitada de alimentação artificial.

Abstract (EN): After 2000 but especially in the 2006/2007 winter the coastal area between Cova do Vapor and Costa da Caparica was seriously reached by sea action, with worrying losses of sediments. This was especially true for S. João beach, where dunes were seriously affected and camping parks were almost flooded by the sea. Some facts were dramatized sometimes in a speculating way not contributing to clear analysis of the facts. The main objective of this paper is to present the critical episodes occurred in the 2006/2007 winter, as well as aspects that were not referred by the media, to describe the artificial sand nourishment of 500 000 m3 assignment, in between Costa da Caparica groin EC4 and Cova do Vapor groin EV1, and to present some considerations about monitoring, before and after the artificial sand nourishment assignment.
