Resumo (PT): Desde a revolução industrial, com o surgimento das máquinas utilizadoras de vapor sob pressão, apareceram novos riscos - as explosões das "caldeiras". Actualmente, os equipamentos sob pressão têm uma utilização abrangente, que vai desde o uso doméstico até à produção de energia (nuclear), ou à industria pesada (petroquímica). Estes equipamentos, por definição, trabalham com pressões acima da atmosférica e, consequentemente, apresentam grande quantidade de energia acumulada. Esta, quando é libertada de uma forma não controlada, pode ocasionar impactes negativos, tanto ocupacionais como ambientais. Estes, pelas repercussões generalizadas que podem tomar, exigem a tomada de medidas efectivas de prevenção e protecção das pessoas e bens. Este trabalho visa evidenciar a importância de uma correcta utilização dos equipamentos sob pressão com a apresentação das medidas de prevenção e protecção e das consequências de alguns acidentes. Não obstante existir uma grande quantidade de equipamentos sob pressão em funcionamento e estarem notificados poucos acidentes, é necessário manter o seu controlo apertado pelas consequências extremamente gravosas dos acidentes, tanto no ponto de vista das pessoas, como dos bens.
Abstract (EN): Since the industrial revolution, with the advent of machinery that use steam under pressure, new risks have appeared - the explosions of "boilers". Currently, pressure equipment have utilization an broad that will from domestic use until production of energy (nuclear), or heavy industry (petrochemicals). These devices, by definition, work with pressures above atmospheric and thus have a large amount of stored energy. This, when it is released in a uncontrolled way, can cause negative impacts, both occupational and environmental. Those impacts, by the widespread repercussions that may take, require effective measures to prevent and protect people and property. This paper aims to highlight the importance of a correct utilization of pressure equipment, with the presentation of measures of prevention and protection and the consequences of some accidents. Nevertheless the existence of a lot of pressure equipment in operation and being reported few accidents, it is necessary to maintain its tight control, by the extremely hazardous consequences of those accidents, both in terms of people as property.
