Abstract (EN):
Since 1870 an important physiographic transformation and coastline retreat has been occurring in Costa da Caparica; this coastal zone is located to the south of Lisbon, Portugal. After the construction of the groin field in the early 1970's the coastline has remained more or less stable, although there was a continuous loss of sand in-between the groins. During the winter of 2000/2001 storm-wave action has significantly affected the beach and dunes between Cova do Vapor and Costa da Caparica groin field and one year after emergency works were carried. Currently, the existent coastal structures are structurally very damaged and in need of rehabilitation measures. For this reason a proposal to improve the coastal defences in order to protect the town against sea attacks, as well as to promote beach growth, was recently presented and approved. This paper will presented and discussed the planned interventions.
