Abstract (EN):
The coastal stretch of Cova do Vapor - Costa da Caparica, in the south region of the Tagus river inlet (Lisbon, Portugal), undergo since 1870 an important physiographic transformations and retreat events of the coastline. Several defense works were built up between 1959 and 1971. Associated with the erosion problems, this area suffers important urban and tourist pressures that cause some difficulties in the management of the coastal zone. Together with management and planning issues several structural options to protect the Costa da Caparica were proposed and discussed. First phase has been completed. This paper presents and discusses the selected interventions, the construction phases carry out in the last two years as well a bathymetric survey comparison. © 2007 World Scientific Publishing Co.
