Abstract (EN):
In the construction of a building or infrastructure several activities interact, resulting in a complex logistic system that is very difficult to monitor. The manager strategic role must focus, essentially, in the logistic activities that have the greatest impact in the quality of construction. To this end, he/she must define as priorities the identification of those activities, and the assessment of the magnitude of the aforementioned impacts.
Bearing in mind the several external and internal factors that influence, and determine, the global performance of the construction sector in Portugal, it is legitimate to state that their success depends on the adoption of a management model based on a formal system compatible with the current market demands. The implementation of the standards ISO 9001 2000 constitutes, therefore, a new challenge to the construction sector, namely in the guidance of the companies aiming the development of their own quality management system.
