Abstract (EN):
Imaging displays are an important but often neglected part of a Health information System. A hospital may have hundreds of displays of various technologies and brands, distributed from the simplest tasks to the ever growing and critical imaging displays. Liquid Crystal Displays (LCDs) are taking over on all fields, with advantages and disadvantages. This paper broadly analyzes the characteristics and limitations of displays, giving an insight of current knowledge on the field. Aspects of current technologies in use, and a comparison of Cathode Ray Tube Displays (CRTs) versus LCDs are presented. information on buying, placing, maintenance, and quality assurance is given, as well as explanation on imaging displays peculiarities. LCDs are a mature enough technology ready for broad adoption in both economical and technical aspects. There is a need for a specialized local staff on choosing, testing and assuring the quality of displays, which can bring economical, technical and, ultimately, healthcare advantages.
