Abstract (EN):
Modern precast prestressed concrete bridges are characterized by quite complex process of construction. The tendency to provide full continuity between adjacent spans of the bridge as well as between precast girders and the cast in place slab causes that the structural system changes several times during erection. This requires performing sophisticated analysis in the designing process considering the influence of all constructional phases for the development of stresses in the several cross-sections. The influence of creep and shrinkage of concrete in case, where the structural system change during execution and where the concrete of several part of structure has different age can not be neglected since it causes significant redistribution of stresses.
This paper presents results of safety and serviceability verification of the precast prestressed concrete U-girder bridge recently build in Portugal. The verification was performed according to the limit state format defined by CEB-FIP Model Code 90 and Eurocode 2. The load model was adopted from Portuguese code. The verification was performed using the computer program developed by second author. The software allowed to consider in the analysis all phenomena as creep, shrinkage and ageing of concrete, relaxation of steel, allowed to model all constructional phases and consider real history of loading. The non-linearity of concrete and steel was also taken into account which permitted to assess real behaviour of the bridge up to the failure.
