Abstract (EN):
The performance on energy dissipation of low-crested breakwaters depends primarily on the wave reflection and wave transmission characteristics. The behavior of these structures to prevent coastal erosion problems is mainly related with these two phenomena. The results of several experimental studies performed at the Laboratory of Hydraulics of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, with different impermeable and smooth low-crested breakwaters, under random waves, are presented. Special emphasis is focuses on the variability of water levels (high tide regime), related with the Portuguese coastal wave characteristics.
