O estado ponderal e o comportamento alimentar de crianças e jovens: influência do peso e das atitudes de controle da mãe

Resumo (PT): O estado ponderal das mães e o dos filhos encontra-se relacionado, o que apela à intervenção de factores hereditários e de factores ambientais como: hábitos alimentares, as atitudes perante os alimentos e estratégias de controlo da alimentação dos filhos. O objectivo desta investigação foi verificar a associação entre o estado ponderal das mães, as atitudes de controlo da alimentação dos filhos, e o comportamento alimentar e o estado ponderal dos filhos. Os participantes foram 204 mães e respectivos filhos de idades entre os 6 e 13 anos. As mães forneceram o seu peso e a altura sendo calculado o Índice de Massa Corporal (IMC), responderam ao Questionário Alimentar para Crianças (CFQ) e ao Questionário do Comportamento Alimentar da Criança (CEBQ). Os filhos foram pesados e medidos, foi calculado o IMC depois transformado em Z Score. Os resultados mostram que, em ambos os sexos, o IMC das mães, as suas atitudes de controlo alimentar e dimensões do comportamento alimentar dos filhos se associavam ao estado ponderal das crianças. As conclusões têm implicações no aconselhamento e intervenção em crianças e jovens em risco de obesidade e obesos, e suas mães. Abstract (EN): The weight status of mothers and their children is related, calling for the involvement of hereditary factors and environmental factors, such as: food habits, the attitudes towards food and the child feeding control strategies. The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between weight status of mothers, the attitudes to control child feeding, and eating behavior and weight status of children. Participants included 204 mothers and their children aged between 6 and 13 years. The mothers provided data regarding their weight and height in order to calculate the Body Mass Index (BMI), answered the Child Feeding Questionnaire (CFQ) and the Child Eating Behaviour Questionnaire (CEBQ). The children were weighed and measured; the BMI was calculated and then transformed into Z-Score. Results show that for both sexes, the weight status of children was associated with the BMI of the mothers, mother’s attitudes to control child feeding, and dimensions of the children’s eating behavior. The conclusions have implications for counseling and intervention in children and youth at risk for obesity and obese, and their mothers.
